Farming

Farming has been at the heart of R S Cockerill for over half a century, with our family farming business growing seed and ware potatoes alongside combinable crops across Yorkshire.

Whilst we produce only a fraction of the potatoes required for our packing and crisping operations, our long-standing involvement in production gives us a valuable insight into the changing nature of potato farming as well as the business challenges faced by our growers and suppliers.

Today we farm over 1050 hectares of arable crops, including 690 hectares of potatoes across North and East Yorkshire. Our Farming operations are led by Joe Weston, Supported by Simon Goodall in the Vale of York and Ben Croft in the Yorkshire Wolds. Together, they bring a wealth of local knowledge and practical expertise.

Across our farming operations we invest in the latest equipment and technology to maximise efficiency, productivity and crop quality. During busy planting and harvest periods, we work closely with a trusted network of local contractors, these long-standing relationships have supported our operations year after year.

Long-term relationships remain central to our farming business. We have worked with many of our landlords for generations and as our farming business continues to grow, we’re always interested in talking to landowners about new opportunities and farming arrangements.
